Service modularity in e-learning programs: an analysis from the perceived usefulness perspective

Purpose This study investigates the effects of service modularity on perceived usefulness (PU) e-learning programs through ease use (PEoU) and customization. Design/methodology/approach Structural equation modeling was used to test four hypotheses with survey data from 517 undergraduates in Turkey. Findings Results show that affects PU PEoU. Service customization negatively moderates effect PEoU, but positively PEoU programs. Practical implications offers insights support decisions policymakers higher education institutions how design appealing cost-effectively. Social reveals determinants e-learning, which could democratization access emerging countries where barriers are relatively greater than developed countries. Originality/value The concept is explored context students' perspective. shows standardized interfaces across course modules increase by improving use. It also shows, interestingly, customization, enabled modularity, not always appreciated consumers, because potential extra effort demanded communicating their unique needs providers.
